To celebrate National Intern Day, today’s blog features a guest post from our marketing intern, Ryan:
Today is National Intern Day—a day for employers to recognize and celebrate the contributions of all the hardworking interns across the nation. At Lands’ End, we have had a robust intern program for many years. Our internship program has four main objectives:
- Strategically place interns in key growth areas of our business and provide a meaningful experience within their chosen area of study.
- Build a pipeline of talented candidates for potential future opportunities.
- Provide a robust and inspiring brand experience where interns are actively involved in the day-to-day business.
- Create a positive experience where interns strongly consider making Lands’ End their employer of choice.
This summer, I came here with 41 other interns from colleges and universities all across the country. We are supporting areas as diverse as IT, Marketing, Finance, Design, and Operations to name a few. We begin with a thorough orientation and brand immersion into the corporate culture. Then we participate in team-building and community service projects, network with and receive mentorship from senior leaders, and work on a team business case project and presentation. Previous years’ intern projects have resulted in major corporate initiatives.
Cade, my fellow intern working in the Operations area, says: “As an intern, I have felt right at home with the Operations department in the Embroidery Distribution Center. I have been trusted with several projects involving scheduling, improving the embroidery operation as a whole by analyzing each process and making improvements, training, and forecasting! I have loved how hands-on each project has been and I’m learning so much about operations management. My favorite part has been working across different departments in our intern groups on our final project; I have really enjoyed my team and everything I have learned while doing my project. Lands’ End has made sure my experience has been both fun and engaging! Thank you Lands’ End!”
Design intern, Meghan, adds: "This summer I had the opportunity to work on the development of airline uniforms, interact daily with our overseas vendors, and gain career and industry insight from my team/cross-functional partners. Lands’ End has taught me everything I now know about product development, global sourcing, business, and more!"
Speaking for myself, while National Intern Day may be a “special” day, for me it is another day at Lands’ End, just with a title. That is because here, it feels like every day is Intern Day. I have been treated exceptionally well since the first day I set foot on the company campus. Working with Lands’ End Business has taught me so much. There has been the experience of learning different types of marketing and how it is executed, but that is only part of it. Learning from meetings, company events, and the overall culture of a successful workplace has helped me grow as an intern and as a person so much, and National Intern Day has given me the opportunity to reflect on that and be thankful for this opportunity!
