“It’s going to take a lot of wear and it’s not going to fade,” explains Lands’ End Designer Troy Tarantino. So it’s just the right material for some of the key styles in our Workwear collection. And like the feathered variety, Lands’ End duck is pretty comfortable getting wet, thanks to a durable water-repellent finish.
These styles are loaded with plenty of other innovative features, too. For example, in addition to the sleeve pocket which provides quick access to pencils or small tools, the unisex hooded work jacket also has an insulated three-piece hood. Troy points out that the hood features an adjustable bungee drawcord: “This is much safer. The drawcord won’t come untied or get caught in machinery.” He adds that the jacket’s construction enhances its durability: “We use double-needle felled seams at the armhole and the sides. All the seams are really strong.”
Likewise, the men's and women's carpenter pants are built for long-lasting functionality. They’re fully equipped with exclusive Iron Knees®— a hidden inner lining that adds extra durability where it counts—as well as a gusseted crotch for ease of movement, and a handy hammer loop.
Ultimately, our Cotton Duck clothing is designed with the end use in mind, and built from the ground up on a solid foundation of durability and comfort. The design was inspired by “the farmers, mechanics and field workers in Wisconsin, and seeing what they could benefit from,” explains Troy. The design team asked itself, “How can you enhance the movement and performance and make their job better?”
Plus, the style is modern but won’t look dated a decade from now—which is a good thing, because these pieces are going to last a long time. “We want to keep it classic and timeless but provide features that align with the job function,” says Troy.
It all comes down to creating clothing that gets the job done, does it well, and looks good doing it. Because at Lands' End Workwear, we know work.
